Meet some of our tutor team

ENGLISH

As well as a BA in English Literature, Carl also has an MA in Comparative Literature from University College, London, and has been teaching in one of the country's most academically high-achieving schools for ten years. 


Carl:

  • is a Fellow of The Chartered College of Teaching
  • has been Assistant Head (Pupil Development) as well as Head of Year in Years 9-11 at a highly academic school in Cambridge
  • has been an A-level and GCSE examiner for a number of exam boards.


Having graduated from Oxford University with a degree in English Language and Literature, Simon has spent the last 20 years teaching in some of the highest achieving schools in the country. 


Simon:

  • is a Fellow of The Chartered College of Teaching
  • has been Head of English for over a decade in two schools (one in North London and one in Cambridge) that regularly feature in the Top 10 schools in League Tables for GCSE and A-Level
  • is an A-Level and GCSE examiner, moderator and presenter for a number of exam boards.

Chrissy graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in French Literature where she also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Francophone Studies. 


Chrissy:

  • has nearly twenty years' experience of teaching English Language and English Literature A Level in high-achieving schools in the South West
  • was a Key Stage Five Coordinator at her previous school
  • was the Lead on teaching and learning methods for GCSE English and has significant curriculum design experience.


Jonathan graduated from the University of York with a First-Class degree in English and Related Literature in 2006 and spent 13 years thereafter teaching in several leading state and independent secondary schools.


Jonathan:

  • Also possesses an MA from University College London in Issues in Modern Culture, a course largely exploring English and French literature from the 19th Century to the present
  • Is a highly experienced coach for pre-ELAT and Oxbridge Interviews; many of his students have been successfully placed at their desired colleges
  • Was a Sixth Form tutor throughout his time as a classroom practitioner, garnering him significant pastoral insight.

Alice is an outstanding subject expert, having completed her M.Phil in Late Victorian and Modernist Literature, followed by her Ph.D in English Literature, with a specialism in Evelyn Waugh and Graham Greene.


Alice:

  • has thirteen years' experience of teaching English Language and English Literature at GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A-Level, including at Oakham School and Malvern College.
  • is an experienced examiner at GCSE and A-Level, and has also taught at Undergraduate level in the English Department at The University of Birmingham.
  • is an Oxbridge Admissions mentor, UCAS mentor and EPQ supervisor.

Becky graduated with a degree in English and has over twenty years’ experience teaching in secondary schools, including her current role as a senior examiner at GCSE.


Becky:

  • is the co-founder of @Team_English1, an online and conference-based support network for English teachers, with over 40,000 followers and recognition from the Department for Education and The Guardian
  • has led the organisation of the National Conference for Team English, attended by over 500 teachers and featuring 50 workshops from leading figures in English education
  • regularly blogs about education, with her writing featured as a ‘top blog’ in Schools Week.

During his time at Glasgow University James won awards for his work in English Literature. He went on to Oxford University on a fully-funded graduate scholarship to undertake academic research in English Literature.  


James:

  • has held a wide range of roles in schools in the UK and internationally, including at one of the UK’s top specialist music schools
  • James holds a Master's degree in Educational Leadership
  • has exceptionally wide-ranging experience in education at all levels of school management and leadership 
  • continues to consult for schools and educational trusts and, as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, James is a passionate advocate for the humanities.

As well as his first-class honours degree in English Literature  from University of Cambridge, Sam also has a Ph.D focusing on Travel Writing and Transnational Literature.


Sam:

  • has a wealth of experience teaching at GCSE, A-level and university level, most recently at one of the most prestigious schools in the North of England.
  • has supported pupils not only as a Deputy Head of English, but also as Head of Year and Head of Academic Enrichment.
  • is a published author, both in academic journals and his own book for Palgrave Macmillan.

John graduated with a degree from UCL in London, and has over twenty years’ experience teaching in schools worldwide, including schools in Moscow, Seville, Madrid and Paris.


John:

  • not only teaches GCSE and IB, but is also an expert in TOEIC and IELTS preparation, including adult and business learners.
  • has taught business English to International students from major worldwide corporations, including Microsoft and BNP Paribas. 
  • has examination and invigilation experience, including with Cambridge University examinations.

Katie is a highly experienced English teacher with a proven track record of helping students achieve excellent GCSE and A-Level results. With over 14 years in the classroom, she supports all learners to build confidence, develop strong analytical skills, and reach their academic goals. 


Katie:

  • combines creative strategies with focused skill-building to boost both engagement and performance. 
  • has students who make exceptional progress due to her thoughtful and evidence-informed approach.
  • also works nationally and internationally as an educational consultant, specialising in racial literacy and working with schools to develop inclusive, equitable practices that empower every learner

MATHS

Simon graduated from Oxford University and has taught mathematics and supported high-achieving students across both state and independent schools in Cambridge for the past decade.


Simon:

  • holds a Master’s in Education from The University of Cambridge
  • most recently taught Mathematics at one of the country's leading academic day schools in Cambridge
  • is a specialist in supporting students in preparing for Oxbridge entrance and the STEP examinations, with an outstanding track record of success
  • is a Director of Learn to Lead CIC, a national education organisation supporting student leadership across 250 schools


Having completed a PhD in Immunology and a PGCE in Maths & Science at Oxford University, Michael has combined his passion for scientific research with a dedication to teaching and curriculum innovation.


Michael:

  • has spent over a decade teaching secondary Science and Mathematics at Key Stages 3-5, with a focus on problem-based learning and examination success
  • has worked as Mathematics Subject Lead at an international EdTech company, creating digital video courses and assessments aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus
  • previously held postdoctoral research positions at The University of Cambridge, where he led a Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research-funded project on cancer stem cells in T-cell lymphoma
  • Michael is a European bronze medallist in athletics, a national-level sprinter, and an athletics coach for young athletes.

After completing his Biomedical Engineering degree at University College, London, Kiwindu began his career teaching Maths to Engineering undergraduates at university level, before becoming a Secondary Maths teacher. 


Kiwindu:

  • has taught both GCSE and A-Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics at Cambridge Academy of Science and Technology (CAST), itself is a specialist Science and Maths school with high-ability Maths students 
  • continues to teach in Cambridge, experienced at Key Stage Three, GCSE and A-Level, as well as Further Maths, and utilises the latest technology in his online tutoring to enhance learner outcomes 
  • is an outstanding Mathematician, having secured the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for the highest mark at AS-Level Mathematics in Oman. 

With a degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Cardiff University, Robert has been in education as a teacher, senior school leader and examiner for over 25 years, most recently as an Assistant Headmaster in a school in Wales.


Robert:

  • has been Head of Maths and Maths Curriculum Lead, as well as working with his Local Education Authority as as a Leader of Learning in Maths, supporting local schools in improving their results
  • has over a decade of experience as an examiner and Team Leader for a number of national exam boards at GCSE
  • led an innovative Financial Literacy course at his most recent school, helping students and families engage positively with financial planning and budgeting.

Lizzie studied Mathematics and Biology at the University of Bristol before completing her PGCE in Mathematics. She has over 12 years of teaching experience in both state and independent schools and is currently Head of Maths at a leading independent school in Surrey.


Lizzie:

  • has led the Maths Department at her school since 2021, achieving the school’s best ever A Level and iGCSE results
  • previously served as Trust Lead for Maths across a multi-academy trust in London
  • has extensive experience supporting students from KS3 through to Further Mathematics A Level, including Oxbridge applicants 

Ed graduated from the University of Exeter with a First Class BSc in Mathematics with Finance before completing a PGCE in Mathematics at the University of Buckingham. He has taught in leading independent schools and now works as a private tutor alongside his sports coaching career. 


Ed:

  • has run his own tutoring practice since 2020, teaching mathematics from KS2 to A Level (GCSE, IGCSE and A Level Edexcel)
  • taught mathematics at Cranleigh School from Year 9 to Year 13, covering IGCSE, A Level and Pre-U, and also served as Assistant Housemaster
  • combines his teaching with playing and coaching hockey at the highest level 

SCIENCE

Paul graduated from Cardiff University with a BSC (Hons) in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and also has a PGCE in Secondary Science Education. He has spent over 40 years teaching years 7-13 at one of the country's most academically prestigious schools.


Paul: 

  • has over 40 years of teaching experience, including time as Head of Chemistry, at one of the country's top schools for Oxbridge acceptance.
  • has an approach focusing on confidence-building and supplementing schoolwork for students facing challenges in their studies. 
  • has extensive experience as an A-Level, GCSE and IGCSE examiner, and is currently an assistant examiner for OCR and CIE examination boards. 

Neelam studied Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, and later completed her QTS and a National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership with Distinction. She has over 15 years of teaching and leadership experience across leading schools and colleges.


Neelam:

  • is currently Head of Science and STEM Director where she oversees all three sciences at KS4 and KS5
  • has consistently achieved 100% A*–B results across GCSE and A Level Science, with extensive experience teaching Science from Year 7–11 and Chemistry from Year 12–13 
  • has been an examiner for leading exam boards and has a strong record of supporting high-achieving students through Oxbridge applications

Having graduated with a BA in Natural Sciences (Psychology) from the University of Cambridge, Keerti also has three postgraduate degrees, including in Health Psychology, International Child Studies from King's College, London, and an M.Sc in Educational Neuroscience from UCL and The Institute of Education.


Keerti:

  • has been a teacher and tutor of Science and Psychology for a decade at GCSE and A-level, with extensive exam board experience
  • is a Chemistry and Psychology specialist at A-Level, as well as being a Key Stage Co-ordinator of Science at a successful school in London 
  • is fluent in three languages, as well as receiving a scholarship to Cambridge University and scoring 800/800 in Maths in the US SATS.

Jordan holds a BSc in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Sheffield, and a PGCE in Secondary Science Education . He has experience teaching Physics to secondary and A-level students in both state and private schools.


Jordan:

  • was Second in Department at a leading Sussex boarding school, developing A-level core practical resources and facilitating student research projects
  • has experience redesigning and implementing KS3-KS5 curricula, running exam support sessions, and promoting STEM research
  • has supported students applying to university for Medicine and Engineering, as well as industrial apprenticeships
  • has experience in data analysis, programming, and computational modelling.


Jessica graduated with a BSc in Biology and went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Science. She has taught in two high-achieving schools before becoming a full-time private tutor.


Jessica:

  • has been a full-time tutor since 2022, teaching biology, chemistry and physics to students aged 7–18, including GCSE, iGCSE and A-level
  • Has held teaching and leadership responsibilities in schools
  • Has outstanding experience in science curriculum design and implementation, ensuring students of all levels are fully supported.

Alice studied Natural Sciences at Durham University before completing her PGCE in Physics at the University of Bristol. She has extensive classroom experience across high-achieving schools.


Alice:

  • has taught Physics from Year 7 to Year 13, also holding positions of pastoral leadership
  • has extensive experience in designing and delivering targeted intervention to improve exam outcomes at GCSE and A Level
  • also has experience in teaching the EPQ at Sixth Form and in supporting students with Oxbridge applications.

11+ & 13+, Common Entrance and KEY STAGE TWO

Sophie was educated at Roedean and studied at The University of Durham and The University of Oxford. She has 20 years’ experience teaching in leading UK independent prep and secondary schools, including Alleyn’s, Canford, Farleigh, and Sherborne.


Sophie:

  • has taught English from Year 4 to A-level and Latin to GCSE level
  • has been Head of English, Head of Latin, Head of Learning Support, and Director of Studies
  • has extensive experience guiding students through school transitions at 11+, 13+, and 16+
  •  has had much success preparing overseas students with no previous Latin to succeed in the 13+ Latin Common Entrance exam 
  • also offers educational consultancy services, advising families on school applications, entrance assessments, and interview preparation

Stephanie graduated from the University of London (Queen Mary), and as well as holding a PGCE from the University of Cambridge, Stephanie has spent more than a decade helping primary school pupils achieve some of the highest KS2 Maths scores in the country.


Stephanie:

  • is Maths Subject Leader in a local Cambridge school. 
  • In 2023, Stephanie’s KS2 Maths results ranked her school 4th in Cambridgeshire (out of 250 schools) for both average Maths score, and for level of pupil progress in Maths.
  • has been a mentor for Cambridge University PGCE teachers.
  • is an experienced Maths tutor at KS2, KS3 and GCSE.

Jason was educated at Brighton College and holds an LLB in Law and a Psychology Diploma. With 18 years of teaching experience he has worked primarily with Years 4, 5, and 6.


Jason:

  • has been Assistant Headteacher, with responsibility for pedagogy
  • was on the Senior Leadership Team member while working at a London school
  • has taught internationally in British schools in Malaysia and Bahrain
  • was shortlisted for TES International School of the Year 2024
  • has expertise in behaviour management and pastoral support
  • is passionate about inquiry-based learning

Having completed a PGCE at the University of Cambridge, and a BA in History from SOAS, Victoria has over a decade of experience teaching and tutoring children across the early years and primary age range, both in the UK and internationally.


Victoria:

  • tutors children aged 7–11 in English and Mathematics, prepares pupils for the 11+, and leads a virtual book club for upper Key Stage 2
  • has held teaching positions at several top UK prep schools including Glendower Preparatory School and Westminster Cathedral Choir School, where she taught Reception and led literacy and phonics provision
  • has worked extensively as a travel governess and home-school tutor for private families in London and abroad, delivering a broad primary curriculum in both home and remote settings
  • has taught internationally in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia, where she led extracurricular programmes including science awards, drama clubs, and history workshops

humanities, social sciences and LANGUAGES

Having graduated from Gonville and Caius, Cambridge with a BA in Geography, Victoria was previously a Political Journalist for the BBC before gaining a PGCE from The University of Oxford.

Victoria:

  • is an experienced Geography teacher at Key Stage Three, GCSE and A-Level, as well as an academic mentor to a variety of individual students, achieving excellent public exam results
  • was a professional mentor to PGCE students from The University of Oxford, supporting their professional development and progress as Geography teachers
  • in her previous career, oversaw the BBC News Live page during such events as Election Night 2019 and the EU Referendum result, and has delivered talks and assemblies to pupils on topics such as politics and the media.



Having graduated from Lincoln College, Oxford with a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, John has spent over three decades supporting schools, governments, and trusts to raise standards and improve outcomes for children.

John:

  • holds a Master’s in Education and has taught A-Level Sociology and Politics, serving as a chief examiner and has authored textbooks on world inequality, the arms race, and global issues
  • has served as Senior Education Advisor for the Department for Education, reporting directly to two Secretaries of State and leading national-level school improvement strategies
  • has held posts at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute and at the National College for School Leadership
  • has directed major education leadership programmes for the National College for School Leadership
  • founded and led an education consultancy supporting the launch of the first wave of academies in London and beyond, and has advised MATs, local authorities, and trustees on school leadership, SEND, behaviour, and safeguarding



As well as having a BSc in Psychology from the University of London alongside a PGCE in Psychology and Sociology, Rosslyn also has a diploma in Emotional Health and Wellbeing Coach, and as and Advanced Counsellor and Psychotherapist.


Rosslyn:

  • has been a Psychology teacher and tutor for over 20 years, including Deputy Head of Department and Head of GCSE Psychology
  • is an incredibly experienced examiner at both GCSE and A-Level for OCR, Edexcel and AQA, as well as an exam paper editor
  • has extensive experience in pastoral support, as well as working with pupils with a variety of learning needs. 

 Having graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Modern and Medieval Languages, Elizabeth has since specialised in German and French teaching across a range of independent and state schools in the UK.

Elizabeth:

  • has taught modern foreign languages at KS3-KS5 in numerous schools in the state and independent sectors 
  • completed an MA in German Linguistics at the University of Bamberg and a PGCE in Secondary Modern Languages with Distinction
  • has a senior pastoral role in the National Youth String Orchestra

Bernard studied History at The University of Cambridge before completing a teaching qualification with the Institute of Education. With over 30 years of teaching experience, he has led History departments and taught at GCSE, A-level and IB at schools around the world.


Bernard:

  • has been Head of History, Head of Humanities, Director of Studies and Vice Principal at a number of successful international schools
  • is also an experienced and successful  Sociology teacher at both IGCSE and A-Level
  • has many years of examiner experience in both History and Sociology, as well as having overseen the public exam process at a college in Oxford. 

creative subjects - MUSIC, ART, DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY AND MORE

Mark holds a BA in Visual Arts and a Master's in Education. He has over a decade of experience teaching Art, Design and Technology, and Photography in UK secondary schools.

Mark:

  • is Head of Design and Technology in a successful secondary school in Cambridgeshire
  • Has held positions of pastoral responsibility in a number of schools
  • Has a track record of exceptionally high GCSE results in Art and in Design and Technology.



Seb studied Fine Art before completing a teaching qualification with The City and Guilds of London Institute. With over 20 years of teaching experience, he has led art departments and taught at sixth form and college level alongside working as a professional illustrator.


Seb:

  • was Head of Art in a secondary school in Cambridge, leading curriculum design and supporting students with university portfolio applications
  • has been a GCSE Art Moderator, awarded the top grade for his work visiting schools and assessing student portfolios
  • brings professional creative industry experience as a freelance illustrator/designer, working with clients such as AstraZeneca, Sky and the Premier League.

Ellie studied music at the University of Birmingham, graduating with First Class Honours, before completing a Master’s degree in Orchestral Performance at the Swedish National Orchestra Academy in Gothenburg. She has since built a varied freelance career as a professional flautist across the UK and Scandinavia.


Ellie:

  • freelances regularly with leading orchestras including the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Opera, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Jönköping Sinfonietta, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan and Scottish Opera
  • teaches instrumental, theoretical and academic music to students of all ages and abilities, drawing on her international performing experience to support both beginners and advanced pupils in preparing for graded exams, auditions and ensemble playing
  • is the founder of the Cambridge Young Performers Orchestra, a new ensemble for secondary school musicians in central Cambridge
